Formed in 1974 by an ex BBC Engineer and the Sales Manager of Teleng, teldis made a slow start endeavouring to compete with the stalwarts of the industry such as Belling & Lee, Teleng and Wolsey Electronics. Over the intervening years these companies and others have disappeared or amalgamated with newer upcoming companies as new technologies have to be embraced. In the past 30+ years we have seen much technical innovation and only those visionaries who have adapted positively to these changes have survived the cull.
Back in 1974 geo-stationary satellite transmission was only just becoming the reality of Arthur C Clarkes dream but now there are hundreds of satellites in geo-stationary earth orbit telling us, how we are, what we are and even where we are! Cable TV (Maggie Thatcher’s ‘pipe’ dream) came, consolidated and found a niche market for itself. However, nothing prepared us for the onslaught that satellite television with its multiplicity of TV channels has forced upon us. IRS systems delivering 5 GHz, 9GHz or 17GHz bandwidth are now available at very affordable prices and with our multi ethnic society many would say that maybe we should not stop at 17 cable systems.
teldis has trod this tightrope of opportunity over this time span and forged many important partnerships with highly successful companies. Fuba (swallowed by Motorola along the way). Polytron, Ikusi, Kubler, Cable Corning, Spaun and Wisi have all played their part in helping teldis to the success it has achieved.
We now embark on a new era in TV transmission technology, namely digital. We have had digital satellite for some years now, providing us with even more channels and soon to provide high definition television with its high bandwidth requirements.
Over the next 5 years we will experience the greatly debated switch-over from Analogue to Digital Terrestrial reception. Many of us have already embraced this change by adopting satellite and purchasing Freeview boxes etc, but everybody will need to come to this party because progressively around the UK analogue transmissions will be switched off, culminating in the London area in 2012.
With these exciting new happenings we urge you to look no further than teldis for all your present and future requirements to fulfil all your customers’ dreams.
